History of the EW Tipping Foundation

The late Bill TippingThe EW Tipping Foundation is named after the late EW (Bill) Tipping, and was formed in 1970.

Bill was a journalist for the Melbourne Herald who wrote passionately about people with disabilities and other social issues.

Just before Bill passed away from serious illness, there was a large public meeting in Melbourne to form the EW Tipping Foundation in his name.

Originally, the Foundation concentrated on group homes for people with disabilities. More recently, it has expanded into respite, advocacy, community development and other areas where there is need.

The Foundation was one of the first organizations in Victoria to adopt a person-centred approach to its services.

The Foundation continues to enjoy the support of many thousands of people across Victoria.

We continually seek innovative ways to meet community need, and are now leading and supporting a network of community partner organisations to work towards our shared vision of Independence, Choice and Community for All.
