At an age when most people are thinking about retiring, Jenny is just starting to ramp up her career.

Thanks to changing expectations in the community, it’s not too late for her to join the workforce.

Jenny is aged 63 and lives in one of EW Tipping Foundation’s shared supported accommodation houses in Gippsland.

Jenny’s staff realized that Jenny had much higher skill levels than she was being given credit for. She told them that she wanted to stay active and pursue challenges rather than think about retirement.

They worked with Jenny to explore opportunities and the result is Jenny’s first job, working one day a week as a volunteer at the local opportunity shop distribution centre.

Along with the rest of the team there, she helps sort, iron, clean and assess garments for sale in the shop.

Now Jenny and staff are exploring other opportunities to expand her skills – proving it’s never too late to start a career
