Building a Better Future

Did you know that:

  • 1 in 45 Australians has an acquired brain injury (ABI).
  • three out every four people with an ABI are aged less than 65
  • one in every five strokes happens to a person aged less than 55
  • more than 55% of ABIs are caused by traffic accidents
  • falls, assault, stroke and illness also contribute to ABIs.
  • more than 6700 young Australians, many with brain injuries are currently living in nursing homes

So, to mark our 40 year anniversary EW Tipping Foundation is committed to our ‘Founding Futures’ Initiative – improving outcomes for people with an ABI.

We are participating in two landmark projects that focus on ABI – a world-class rehabilitation centre and innovative living options.

These projects will provide support options for people with an ABI, and provide them and their families with hope for the future.

Your support is vital.

Founding Futures is a $2.5 million appeal and every donation will make a difference. To help our Founding Futures projects please click here to donate online or call 03 9564 1000. Your contribution is invaluable and donations over $2 are tax deductable.

A World Class Rehabilitation Centre

The EW Tipping Foundation is partnering with Rehability Australia, in a joint venture to establish a world-class ABI rehabilitation centre in Melbourne – the ReNew Centre.

The centre will apply an innovative neuro-behavioural program of therapy and support new to Australia. The approach combines the best scientific methods of training and changing behaviour with an understanding of the exact nature of brain injury and a philosophy of community based rehabilitation.

The ReNew Centre will cater for up to 30 people with an ABI and is planned to open in 2011.

Getting Young People Out of Nursing Homes

Did you know that:

  • 82% of young people in nursing homes hardly ever see their friends.
  • 47% never go shopping, or participate in leisure activities.
  • 13% never even go outside.

my future my choice is a government initiative to provide appropriate accommodation and support for young people who are living, or are at risk of living, in residential aged care. Through this initiative, the Department of Human Services is undertaking the construction of purpose-built homes to accommodate younger people in this risk category, in partnership with disability service providers.

We are demonstrating our commitment to this vital project by participating in the building of four new houses in Moe, Wodonga, Bairnsdale and Oak Park.

The residences will cater specifically for young people’s needs in a home environment. This will allow better access for families and will give young people with a disability the maximum independence and community access possible based on their individual needs and circumstances.
