Mark's Story

An accident in his early 20’s left Mark with a serious brain injury. Suddenly, Mark was fully dependent on those around him – he couldn’t walk, talk or even feed himself. Following extensive period of rehabilitation, Mark lived in a nursing home.

Though caring for his physical needs, this facility couldn’t provide Mark with individual care and attention designed to meet his needs. He was unable to pursue interests or go out in the community, and had limited interaction with family and friends.

Fortunately, Mark found a permanent place to live in a home specially designed for young people with an acquired brain injury. Through the perseverance and dedication of his family, and in supported accommodation, Mark is able to get the care and support he needs.

He now enjoys basketball and soccer in the backyard, plays pinball in his own unit and goes to concerts with his support worker.
