Just before Christmas last year, Justin, a 16 year old boy with severe autism, was staying at our respite house at Epping when his mother took her own life after a long battle with mental illness.
With good planning and goal setting, and with the help of family and his support workers, Garth has already been able to achieve a lot but with the NDIS coming into their area, he is looking forward to the NDIS helping him achieve his goals of gaining more life skills and giving back to his community.
Christine is the mother of 16-year old Imyjen, who has a rare muscle condition known as Schwartz-Jampel syndrome. She shares some of her experience with NDIS planning and advice for other families who are transitioning to the NDIS.
Social inclusion and community involvement for people with disability is a big part of what we strive for at The Tipping Foundation. Thanks to an RACV Community Foundation grant, clients staying at our Warragul respite house have been able to enjoy some great community outings.
