Simone

Our client SimoneDoctors didn’t expect Simone to live past her 10th birthday or ever be able to live independently, but they didn’t know Simone. Today she is in her late 30s and lives in her own unit in Geelong.

Simone has been a client of The Tipping Foundation since 2011. In that time she has formed strong friendships with her support workers, who have helped her to maintain her independence and live in her own home. They are a great team, who respect each other and share many laughs.

Simone’s goal was always to live independently but her parents told her that she couldn’t achieve her goal because of her disability. Although it took her some time to become fully independent, she hasn’t looked back since.

“I found support staff that I really get along with.”

The Barwon region, where Simone lives, was chosen as a trial site for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), so she became one of the first Australians to benefit from the scheme. We worked with Simone to make sure her NDIS plan reflected the supports and services that she needed.

As a passionate advocate for disability rights, Simone regularly appears in the media as a spokesperson for the rights of people with disability. She works for The Victorian League for Individuals with a Disability (VALID) as their media representative.

Simone also attends NDIS events and expos with The Tipping Foundation and often speaks at our events.
